The Society for American Music is honouring R. Murray Schafer at their annual conference, which this year takes place in Ottawa (http://american-music.org/conferences/Ottawa/OttawaInformation.php). A special tribute concert will take place at St. Brigid's Centre for the Arts and Humanities. Mezzo-soprano Julie Nesrallah
will perform selections from Minnelieder, Schafer's exploration of
medieval German love songs. Pascale Margely will perform with harpsichordist Cécile Desrosiers. Schafer's commitment to young musicians and
choral music will be showcased in Epitaph for
Moonlight by the Ottawa Regional Youth Choir. Finally, Wizard Snake Oil and Indian Sagwa, featuring clarinetist Rebecca Danard and narrated by CBC's Laurence Wall, will highlight Schafer's love for the humorous and the dramatic.
